Some people say that they're the samething, others believe that they are basically the same thing, it just depends on the way you use it, and some believe that they are two totally different things.

When the two parties in a civil suit agree to a deal, and drop the suit, that's a settlement.

A plea bargain occurs in a criminal case, where the defendant agrees to plead guilty in return for reduced charges, a shorter sentence, or some other inducement.

To correct C181187's answer.... People being sued are NOT found guilty of a crime. You;re found guilty of a crime only in a CRIMINAL case, brought by the State. Lawsuits are CIVIL matters between two individuals or companies.

A settlement is when the person being sues agrees to pay a certain amount of money so they don't have to be found guilty/not guilty of a crime and have a judge decide how much they might want to pay.

A plea bargain is when someone being charged agrees to plead guilty or offer evidence against someone else in return for a smaller punishment or fine.
