When I worked for the Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game I was stationed on Round Island in Bristol Bay South of Dillingham about 100 miles more or less. On the island lived, at that time, about 150 red fox. They ate sea birds mainly and their eggs in the summer. What they lived on in the winter I don't know.

They would eat anything including the tent ropes holding our tent up. They had seen few humans and were not particularly afraid of us.

There was one that had a bad leg. It had been broken at one time or another. They were all funny to watch because of their playful antics.

I and another man were stationed on the island watching for ivory poachers who were killing the walrus for their ivory. This was 41 years ago this last summer. There were at times 2,000 to 3,000 walrus on the island.

It was a fun summer!

I live in Idaho, high mountain desert area. We have the classic red fox with the black legs. We also have rare (and smaller) desert foxes here.

I see foxes fairly frequently, though not on my farm, since my Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs keep them away.

This summer I was driving in a VERY, VERY rural area. I was in a little ghost town, in the middle of no-where. There was a fox vixen sitting just outside her den. What I thought was a rock by her leg suddenly rolled over, and wiggled his four little paws in the air. It was a fat little fox cub. Very cute. I felt like I should be filming it for Wild Kingdom. They were the rare desert foxes, by the way.

Here in the southeast, we have both grey and red fox. I have seen them follow my backtrail, as I sat on deer stands and a few springs ago, while floating the bowie river, we watched a vixen and 4 kits play on a sandbar for a good thirty minutes.

I have, nearly every night. Here in U.K.we have a great many urban foxes. They have adapted to their habitats being built over by humans and eat our leftovers, takeouts etc.You see them going up the road, visiting every driveway, systematically in the early hours of the morning.I put cat food out for them and fresh water.

Seen a few, shot a few, they were killing my friend turkeys. In the summer they can be openly hunted as varmints. I winter when the coats are nice you need a permit. In the summer the coats are mangey (sp?)

Here in Denver, we see them everywhere. They come down from the mountains and wander around in the early morning hours.
