I think the question is how does the theory of punctuated equilibrium explain the absence of transitional fossils in the geological record. That is the question I am going to answer (and the price you pay for that incoherent question lol).

Punctuated equilibrium hypothesizes that evolutionary change leading to new species often occurs in isolated and unique environments, and for this reason little evidence of the change is preserved (not many places where the change occurred and a small population so few preserved even in that limited area). Subsequently, the successful, or well-adapted, species radiates out into the global environment. From the view of a geologist, it appears that a new species has suddenly appeared, when this is in fact not the case.

(please forgive me Dr Gould for mashing this wonderful theory).
