Almost any war has been documented by movies, although many are fictionalized accounts. Many movies were made about WWII, how about starting with "To Hell and Back" with Audey Murphy. It is the story of his heroism during the war, and he also stars in the movie. He was the most decorated foot-soldier of any US war. There are many other movies about WWII that often play on local stations such as TCM, or rent them at your local video rental if you are required to watch them.
