Saying we were created in gods image is how manipulative men long ago justified Man's dominance over all
Since god does not exist, it was necessary for Man to create him....
so we created him in our image

I personally beleive that we were created in his image in the way of lovng, compassionate, christ like ways,,,,more spiritual...
that can be taken in many ways,,
