Graph using intercepts.

-4x = 8y - 5

I just need some examples of the x & y values that are possible (like x = 0, y = ?). I can't find a solution for the equation to do a graph.

I hope this makes sense at all...

Thanks firsthand.

Well it says graph using intercepts, meaning x and y intercepts, which is when x= o what does y equal and when y = 0 what does x equal. So:
-4(0)=8y -5
0=8y - 5
add 5 to BOTH sides
5=8y
divide by whatever is by the variable, here, 8
5/8=y
so one intercept is (0, 5/8)
next one is when y equals 0

You can just substitute any number in for one of the variables and solve for the other. So if x=4, y will equal...

-4(4)=8y-5
-16=8y-5
+5 +5
-11=8y
/8 /8
y= -11/8

^Just like that. y equals negative eleven eighths. =) Hope that helped!

1) start with a point at +4 on the y-axis. From there, go 3 to the right and 2 up(put 2nd point there). Continue pattern a couple of times and draw a long line through them. Remember (y=mx+b) b is the y-intercept and m is the slope or pattern. 2. Do you mean y+3=x+6. Rearrange in y=mx+b, then do as in #1.

First, Isolate x
Then let Y equal 0
This will tell you the value of X
Then, isolate Y
Then let X equal 0
This will tell you the value of Y
Graph the corresponding points, and you will have your intercept where the lines cross.

Let x = 0 then find y. Then let y + 0 and find x. Then you have both intercepts.
