A day to honor all the Veterans in the US. It was first set up after WWI to celebrate the Armistice that occurred on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The end of WWI
It is for all Veterans not just those who served in Wartime. WE need the services in peace time as well as war time. These folks still give up years of their lives in service to us.

Some participate in parades to honor their fellow soliders, others may even protest the idea of Veterans Day while there is an ongoing war, etc. It's their day and however they chose to spend it, is fine by me :)

it actually is armistice day but it was renamed veterans day in America. armistice day was the 11th day of the 11th month on the 11th hour in 1918 when the fighting of world war 1 ended. the war didnt officially end until 5 months later but this is when the combat ended.

Most sat around wearing their little black hats and complained that not enough people pay attention to them. After all, closing the banks and post offices once a year for memorial day isnt enough for may of those self absorbed clowns... they want two or three holidays and loads of attention because they were not smart enough to avoid military service... or at the least to be come officers.
