Just wondering why the Copper Immersion tanks are domed at the bottom? - there must be a valid reason for it???

Your hot water storage cylinder (immersion heater tank) is subjected to water pressure, either from the cold water tank in the roof if you have what is called a vented system or from the mains water supply if you have an unvented system. A domed surface can withstand this pressure better than a flat surface. The top of your cylinder is also domed for this reason. If it were flat, when under pressure, it would try to distort into a domed shape. This is also the reason why large circular buildings like St. Pauls Cathedral have domed roofs. Imagine what would happen to a boxed shape football if you tried inflating it. (perhaps not so bad, it might give Pompy a better chance)
