We didn't get one until I was in 6th grade. My parents still don't have cable, their house isn't even wired for it.

Yup, the first one I saw was a real Amana "Radar Range" it was about 1970. Wow it could heat up a cup of water in about a minute! I was working with my Dad an electrician and we installed the new circuit for the microwave. It was in an upscale house.

Certainly. Also the first ones produced were by Amana. I never used them until the seventies for lunch time at work. We were fortunate to have a cafeteria with microwaves, so you could heat your food you brought from home.

My grandmother had one of the very first microwaves. They weren't rich, but my grandfather had his own business and was always buying things like that. He had the first video game system on the market, too.

I remember my mum buying one (which was huge) and it costing a fortune, she would cook everything in it from cakes to meat. But now she realises stuff tastes better in the oven. However a microwave is good for defrosting stuff.

No..but I remember getting our first one and my Dad exploding about a dozen eggs inside of it trying to figure out why eggs couldn't be cooked whole inside of it. The same microwave burned $300.00 that he tried to dry inside of it after we went raking for quahogs and he accidentally soaked the money. He didn't think a fire could start inside a microwave.

Edit: ours was also a "radar range"
