I downloaded a tracking app from utorrent that I didnt know was a tracking app.....my windows firewall blocked it when I opened it...do I have anything to worry about? I have windows XP that I just installed on my laptop.

I'm concerned about who may have access to my computer.....any help would be appreciated. I used a software recovery to see if it was deleted and all I found was the short cut. After running a system restore I ran the data recovery program again and found nothing. This is pretty serious so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Honestly, I think the steps you've taken is a bit of overkill.

Bottom line, if you have a proper security suite installed (antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc) from a reliable vendor that is properly configured, up to date, and automatically updating... then all you'd need to do is (after uninstalling and/or deleting the app) force a manual update of your security suite and run a complete scan.
And if you were extremely paranoid perhaps perform a web based scan from a reliable vendor like symantec.com or trendmicro.com which require an active x plugin with a minimal footprint.

Running a system restore you are basically setting your computer back to an earlier time... one when the application may have still been on your computer. So that made no sense.

I have no clue why you would want to run a data recovery tool unless you wanted the application back.

As for this being "pretty serious".. it is far from serious.
A tracking app from utorrent is only there to provide activity tracking of the torrents you share on your computer...

The simple act of your firewall blocking the incoming or outgoing traffic from the application was enough to stop it from performing its designated task. It had no malicious purpose.

Good Luck

You should check what that tracking app is.

recently, WinXP shows warning in every incoming program or any installation. If you are confident on that app. ignore window. Of course, you are taking your own risk.

Hence, all depends on what you know about that tracking app. If you know nothing, ignore that tracking app. and follow windows' instruction.

maybe you should run "hijackthis" to see if you can find any traces of that program.
