Govt rejects funding breast cancer drug
A drug for women with advanced breast cancer has been rejected for a government subsidy, prompting calls to have it added to a specialist funding scheme.
Tykerb was approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in August but has since been turned down twice for a subsidy under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
The expensive drug is designed for women with the extremely fast-moving HER2-positive form of breast cancer who have failed on the blockbuster drug Herceptin.
The pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) currently subsidises the $45,000 treatment under an access scheme with the hope it would win a PBS subsidy.
But a government advisory committee last week refused to reimburse Tykerb for reasons that are not yet clear.

Hi Justme, I have to agree with Woodson, if people continue to be apathetic things will only get worse. I don't believe the U.S. Govt. cares a hoot about the middle and lower middle class people...they only care about their own. I see examples of this time and time again, just as you have pointed out here. I believe that there is a group of people that come from different countries and meet in a different country each year and no out side people are allowed in. They heavy guarding going on. At these meetings they determine what is going to happen next. It is called the Bilderburgs, and that is all I can say about it here. What is happening to this world is for you to look into...if you know what I mean.

I think that 99.99% of pharmaceutical companies are strictly out for the buck. It is in their best interest NOT to find a cure, or if a product is available, they charge such ridiculous prices, no one can afford them but the rich. If a disease no longer exists, they lose money. The excuse for such high prices is that it costs alot of money for R&D, which is true, but a large portion of this R&D is paid for with gov't grants. I also believe that they deem someone with advanced cancer as disposable, so why waste the money on them (not my view point). The bottom line for any major company is money. If there is no profit in it, the project falls by the wayside.

Our Country has gone crazy!!! I assume you live in America? Our beloved England has gone the same way, I'm afraid. We pay our national insurance all our lives, and when we most need health care, we are refused. I have a 2 year old grandson with Tuberous Sclerosis, he suffers constant fits, and his speech is impaired, but vital care has been refused to him, yet women come into England from all over the world to have their babies, which costs our country millions. We the tax payer foot the bill. We are too busy taking care of immigrants, and illegals, and our own people are left to suffer.

once you have an financial gadget nicely worth 13 trillion funds, one billion would not look so enormous. we are conversing approximately much less that a a hundredth of one % of our entire annual financial output. to grant you a rapid assessment, we could say you're making $50,000 a twelve months, are you going to not spend $3 to get a tumbler of Starbucks on a thank you to artwork? that's the dimensions we are conversing approximately with one billion funds. so some distance because it costing $250 billion to rebuild New Orleans, think of of all the flaws that mandatory to be repaired or replaced. Roads, colleges, hospitals, hearth stations, police stations, jails, sewers, water lines, and electric powered lines all upload up.

Would think with refusal would could some pretty heavy justification for refusing.-- not "unclear", but very specifically pointing out any/all deficiencies/dangers in the drug.
