As I am a comparitive novice to this new fangled computer thingy, I have noticed that some times people use initials instead of words. Things like lol and wtf (although I think I know what that one means). Is there a way of finding out please ?

Crazyziggy6 Thanks for saying I could be pregnant, I'll take that as a compliment in more ways than you know, but just tell me, from what part in your head did that come from?

Here is a chat room slang dictionary to get you started. It is a living language so it does change and mutate. If you don't know what something means, you are allowed to ask. http://www.pulpchat.com/faq/faq215.php

Well Shan am new at this too! However a lot of the chopped up words are just a lazy way to get a message across! LOL means 'laughing out loud' - and LMAO means 'laughing my A** off' and ROFLMAO means ' rolling on floor laughing my A** off' - you get the general idea I am sure. Anything with an f or F in it is not worth reading in my book. Btw = by the way. b/4 - before etc. I am sure that there are many EXPERTS on here that have a complete 'dictionary' for you!
Good luck and keep those ????'s coming. CJ

I think the troll has been here with several different names. Thumbs down on questions so innocuous as these and the answers is just plain hatred on the part of the person responsible. Must have had a bad childhood and is taking it out on us for some reason.

Type in cyber slang in your search engine and sites will come up that give you a somewhat 'dictionary' on these cyber abbreviations...lol usually means laughing out loud; some use it mean lots of love.

If you really need to, look here :

It's really not hard. Most are logical. Just tie it in with the whole situation. Like if you are trying to say something funny, and someone responds to what you just said with "lol" or "lmao," it's obvious they are trying to abbreviate a way to tell you it was funny. "LOL" stands for "laugh out loud," while "LMAO" stands for "Laugh my *** off." If you're talking to someone through e-mails or IMs, it's obvious they can't hear you and you can't hear them, and when they're trying to tell you their reaction to what you said, most normal people wouldn't tell you something was, lets say, funny, by saying, "Wow, my vocal chords are emitting this sound reacting to your humorous statement."

It's nothing to do with computers and everything to do with "text speak" on mobile phones.

LOL gets used a lot by people trying to explain that what they've written is funny. Of course if they have to tell you it's funny, it ain't.

Mind you I'm not saying "text speak" may not have certain advantages, War and Peace, 20 pages, easy to carry, I'm sure you see the idea.

best bet is to search it in google, though one of the top results usually leads to www.urbandictionary.com, so you could try there instead.
