The Hart Trophy is given to the player judged to be the most valuable player to HIS team.
More than any player, Theodore was responsible for his team's success

In 2001-2002
67 games
30 wins
24 losses
10 ties

Theodore led the league in save percentage (0.931)
Theodore was 4th in Goals Against Average (2.11)
Theodore was 2nd in Shutouts
Theodore led Montreal to an improbably playoff position

Won the Vezina Trophy
Won the Hart Trophy
Won the Roger Crozier Award
Second In Pearson Voting
Second Team All-Star

Mikey,
Most of the voters are American - I don't think they cared whether Roy played for Canada or not
1) Roy led the league in GAA (edging Cechmanek) and Shutouts,
2) But he finished well down the list in wins (8th), winning percentage (7th) and save percentage (4th)
3) In fact, Roy's winning percenatage that year was the 2nd worst of his career.

One can easily see why he didn't win.

Theodore received the 1st place vote from Colorado's sports writer..............that's all it took.

If it makes you feel better, Theodore and Roy were tied with 105 points each............but Theodore had more first place votes (15 to 12). The first time ever there was a tie for a major award.

And...................277 people picked Hasek as the 2nd best goalie...............not I............and yes, he stunk this evening!

I have absolutely no idea. I don't know about the Hart, but the Vezina should have hands down gone to Patrick Roy, his stats were through the roof that season. The ONLY reason he didn't win the Vezina that year is because he refused to play on Canada's olympic team, all the people who voted obviously didn't like that. It's a shame really, such horrible bias.

Oh really? American? Huh, didn't know that. It would make sense though, Roy not playing for Canada. Either way, he had a career high in SV% (.925%), had more wins than Theodore, more shutouts than Theodore, and a lower GAA than Theodore. I think he should have won, I also think another reason Theodore won is because he played for Montreal, which is one of the biggest hockey markets.

BTW, how is the "2nd best goalie in the NHL as determined by GMs and NHL scouts" doing today? lol

~~

LITY LITY LITY, lol, jkjk, I never said YOU were the one that chose Hasek, I'm just mad at the NHL and its GMs and scouts for making such a dumb decision. I don't even know why this is bothering me so much, but just seeing Hasek let in such horrible goals just makes me think of that damn list again. Of course I know you didn't make that list.

The reason I bring up Roy, is because I actually read all of this in the Denver Post, there was a column written by Colorado's hockey writer saying that's why Roy didn't win the Vezina that year. He even said that he himself voted for Roy. So I don't know, maybe my memory is bad, or maybe there's two sports writers from Colorado who voted (I do have a bad memory).

He single handedly carried the team all the way the playoffs. Also made some of the most amazing saves ever.
