its called the "eye", much like that of a hurricane. It is, however, much smaller in width/diameter..and not well defined. its winds are too chaotic/variable.

Vortex. You could call it an "eye", but a tornado's vortex is chaotic and does not normally become a well -defined, closed center of circulation in the same way that hurricane eyes do.

I don't think you call it an "eye"...

I'd just use the word "vortex" because it is the center of the circulating winds.

Weather forecasters use the term "center of circulation" when they are telling people in the path of the storm to get into a shelter.
