Sometimes, we are burdened with pain; but not of the body ; of the spirit. Yes, I believe we can find our true purpose through pain. It gets our mind off of the awful things in life--the things you wish you could wake up and make it go away like a bad dream. God does not put on us more than we can bear. Always remember that. When the physical pain goes away, most of the time the physical ones do, also. Grams

I don't know. Give me 20 years (or more) of "blissful" life and I will let you know (see how I try to finagle a good deal out of it :-). I felt very content and fulfilled in a different part of the country even though I lived in a painful situation. I think the environment you live in matters too. Having a good friend or two, a great job, and a healthy setting helps even if the rest of your life is falling to pieces every week. I don't know about the long term affect of this. But I do know I was very loving to alot of people during that stressful time in my life. Everything seemed to "bounce" even when it should have felt like it flopped. For me the sun seems to do it. The feel of the warmth on my body and spending time in nature. I seem to deal with things better.

well, it's hard to agree or otherwise because everyone experiences pain on different ways, and it is pnly within theirselves that one's purpose is known. but i believe that pain is substantial for my growth as a physical, mental and spiritual being. it's a nasty call but when pain passes you ease into a calm state wherein you discover the effect of moving through pain. for me, pain is a feeling that blocks happiness in landing upon me. so when moving through pain, it creates this heavy feeling around me, encircling me with such haziness that for sure i am blinded by any kind of pain. but as they say, 'this too shall pass', and my purpose is revealed in time. the only thing i can think of is that pain is inevitable to a person. my friend sent me a message saying: "You gotta accept a little pain in your life, a little sorrow now and then. You'll never really know what your happiness is unless you have something to compare it to." =)

Experiencing pain, physical and/or emotional with strength & wisdom we might never have thought ourselves capable, can bring enlightenment. I cannot imagine how this would in any way be connected to "true purpose." Not unless one had an epiphany that because of their ability, they ought to become a nurse, or caregiver, or someone highly skilled in their tolerance of "pain."
If we have a purpose, we are guided by a myriad of things that exist in our nature, the pattern of our lives, & our choices.
Many confuse purpose with enlightenment through personal
experiences.
I admire people who have had great strength in pains past or present, but pain & purpose have no correlation whatsoever.

It's natural to hold on to past pain since it's a memory, it also drives us to manipulate the present & anticipate the future. The past pain doesn't spoil the fulness only in the present time. Then each moment is like a window that lets the possibility of equal joy and appreciation of what is happening. When we listen to our inner voice, we comes the control of reality.Pain: in the present is experienced as hurt. In the past is remember as anger. In the future is perceived as anxiety. Unexpressed anger, redirected against ourselves nd held within, is called guilt. The depletion of energy that occurs when anger is redirected inside creates depression. I would say that it's according to how we use pain. We certainly find the true purpose of it, and more opening of our mind! Take care!.

sometimes pain is good..do not get me wrong Rena.pain sometimes is what we need to do something better with our lives and figure out who we are.pain is something that "this too shall pass" that with time it can be healed and we can become wiser people.sometimes it is because of pain or the past that some of us choose to be who we are in the present or in the future. in my case when i have emotional pain or physical pain i know that it will pass and that i have a wonderful family who is there for me,a great bf, friends who care and that i am a great person. in times when we are in pain we need to turn to those who can help and in many cases after agony, depression or despair do we realize how much we missed out on life or what we are capable of accomplishing. i went through that after a break up which brought my GPA really low yet in the end it was my dad who could relate with some of the things that i was doing because he was there and he did that and he could help me. finding our purpose comes with finding happiness and pain is not of those things yet when the pain is gone and the grass is greener then can you see the better picture.

I wonder what you have in mind!!!

The only true purpose of inflicting pain on one by the Police (third degree) seems to be to extract information....the same can be said of terrorists too....either that or torture to warn others of dire consequences.

Personally when a person goes through any kind of pain, be that physical or emotional, he learns to endure what cannot be cured...

Yes I do....adversity makes us grow. That is just my humble opinion and it comes from my own personal experience of having lost my baby son.....I lived through that extreme pain of his loss and made it through to the other side....and was given the gift of finding my purpose and my Authentic Self. Pressure makes *diamonds* otherwise we'd all just be lumps of coal =)

For more details about this my own personal experience please see my 360 page and blog called "The Gift" as I do not want to ramble here on answers about it (too tired right now to get into the whole thing and explain my whole experience) =)

(((HUGS))) and blessings to you Rena....you ask some excellent questions!

No....if this were true, then..wouldn't everybody do something to cause them hurt and suffering, knowing this was the path to "true purpose?" And not just here, let's look at all the other countries...are they finding "true purpose" in their loss, and suffering, dying, starvation, homelessness? war? My goodness! These persons should count themselves fortunate! To be so lucky..to be in a position such as theirs..to be able to find "true purpose" for their lives...and here we are looking for it...maybe we should go there? Think? "Peace!"

The pain must be inflicted on the thoughts and mind and not the body .Because the body is innocent and it is always the sufferer in all the austerities .We inflict pain on the body by starving ourselves ,beating ourselves or nailing or anything in the name of god.The body is so innocent it takes everything .But the mind remains unchanged and it is back to its own tantrums of driving you into sadness. The mind must be inflicted to pain to change its regular course of duping us, by meditation and making the mind to think positive. The pain to mind is not harmful as it is just a thought to drive ourselves to the true purpose.
