I havent had sex in a while. I seem to get them right before I start by period. What could this be and what is it caused by? It is very painful also.

Maybe an ingrown hair if you are meaning the outer lip - sounds like a pimple - try a hot salt water compress - or soaking in a tub with Epsom salts in it.

Maybe a batholin cyst. Go see your gynecologist or go to the ER if it gets really bad. They can lance it and drain it and give you antibiotics. If it keeps coming back they can do marsupialization surgery where they lance it and turn the edges back and sew them down so it won't come back.

i have the exact same thing,so wonder what i can use.i asked this question,and most answers came to be that they were ingrown hairs.have you been shaving with clipers or something?well any shaving material could do it.

sorry, but it sounds like you have genital herpes. Suggest you see your doctor so he can culture the bump and make sure, so he can treat it.
