Some are loud and brash and have loud Voices, you Hear them before you see them. The Majority are very nice People. They do not know much about the outside World, and usually ask a lot of questions about the attitudes of the People they will meet in the Country they are visiting. Some are fiercely Patriotic and peculiarly Religeous in there own mixed up way and Moralistic. The Words and sayings that we have, some of them are rude to Americans but not to us we just think they are funny and use them as a matter of course. I dislike the ones with the John Wayne Twangy Voices it just drives me mad. I know they cant Help it and I Grit my Teeth and close my Eyes for an instant and put on a Smile when one of them engages me in Conversation. I am Irish by the way. I hope I did not upset you if you are American ,they are Ok the Yanks

They are ok, same as you and me are ok! Theirs is the most powerful country in the world, and that makes some of them somewhat arrogant. But that comes with the territory! When the UK was top of the tree, the British were a tad arrogant, and we still have a lot of that arrogance. We still act like we are ever so powerful, when in fact we are not. Individually, Americans are just people, so good, some not so good, and some just plain bad. Just like us!
Back in the 60s and 70s, there was a saying that the Americans had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Stevie Wonder. Whereas we had no cash, no hope, and no bloody wonder! And it was true! Then!

i am a Brit who lives in the UK but have visited the states a couple of times

i would say - forget the media presentation - that is a very narrow representation of what the USA is about

i have found that Americans have a very much a 'can do' attitude to life and are far less class conscious than we are in the UK but are far more race conscious

i also have found without exception that the Americans love the Brits and i have found that we were very well received wherever we went and our hosts were always very generous towards us.

One time our hosts sister invited us round - less than an hour later we turned up and 20 kids were lined up. Those kids had heard that some English people were coming and none of them had ever met a Brit before - never mind a British child. my 9yo son (then 8) was nervous as such a reception to start with but he soon settled down and they wanted him to show them some soccer moves

You need to know that the United States is a very large country with many points of view. So, be careful putting all Americans in one category. You would find that most people do not agree on everything.

We Brits could learn a great deal from Americans especially regarding their work ethic, ours seems to have gone to the wall. Most Americans I have met have British lineage - so they are just us with a different accent! If I had the choice I would certainly rather live there than here. The most important thing I have noticed is the manners of their children and the respect they show their elders - something declining in this country.

I am American and I feel great about myself and my culture.
May be some Americans need to feel less proud and learn new things from other cultures, but that depends of the goal of everyone.
Great question
