The ideal design would be like a small town where everything is within walking, wheelchair or scooter distance. This of course is for the elderly who just needs a little help caring for themselves.

Activities: dancing, concerts, movie theater, anything that would go on in a small town

Large dining hall with a large variety of foods and deserts.

For the elderly who are unable to care for themselves. Activities to keep their minds stimulated.

Most important a well paid and caring staff. Many people these days are so abused by nursing home staff it is a shame. And the residents always look bored silly.

I think its nice when nursing homes have ice-cream parlors in them where the residents can get snacks and listen to music. You would also have to employ a recreation therapist or activity director to organize activities and group outings. A general store one day a week would be nice, so that the residents could shop for things they need. Residents should also have some choice of what to eat. The rooms should be private or semiprivate, and have plenty of room to move wheelchairs and lifts around. There should also be a beauty salon in the facility for the residents.
