I would like to think that is a troll reports a question that has 12 stars Yahoo will take a look at it before automatically deleting it (?) I hope it works that way

Here is the info on Laceys link:

Marking good questions with a star helps Answers surface the best content on the site. When a question gets a star, it’s automatically nominated to appear in the “Popular” list on the Answers home page. Answers’ Popular list gives insight into what the community thinks are the most interesting questions at any given point in time.

Answers’ Popular list is similar to Flickr's “Interestingness” feature and the “Hotlist” on del.icio.us where sharing popular content enriches the experience for the entire community.

Stars have no points value. I give stars if I think a question is one others might be interested in or if it's one I want to check back on later. I may want to see what others have answered or I may want to refer back to some information it contains.

So far, I haven't noticed the star rating adding any points to my "score". I see them as more of a place to drop off a calling card saying, "Hi, I was here"! I've heard that some professors use it as an aid to see if their students were able to follow directions & find a certain question according to the homework directions! I have my own system for using the stars. It helps me with research on certain subjects.

Cheers!

They serve no purpose. I never give them since your nickname is stored on the asker's profile. What is really needed is a thumbs up and down for a question that somehow affects points.

I don't see anything about earning points. Personally I think starred questions should earn points.
