Many marine fish are difficult to get to eat. Some are specialized eaters and some will not eat flakes. Try the frozen brine shrimp and other foods from the fish shop. Try feeder guppies. Try finding out before you buy any marine fish if it's a difficult to get to eat in tank fish and if so either don't buy it or be prepared.

Aside from illness that causes lost of appitite most fish who starve do so because the owner fails to reconize the proper food need for the fish to survive. This happens alot with algae eaters and snails. Both can feed on microalgae alone. So when you do such a bang up job keeping our aquariums clean we are starving these fish. Most folks buy these fish to clean the algae. They will buy enough of these type a fish so that they do a really good job and keep the aquarium clean. Then starve because the tank has too many cleaners and not enough food. This is only one example some fish will eat other paricites as their main diet. But because of the size of aquarium they end up eating the food source faster then it can grow.

Many saltwater fish are wild caught (rather than tank bred like most freshwater fish) This sometimes makes it hard to get them to eat prepared foods in an aquarium
