Yes, cat and dog food is not formulated for Oscars. Cat food contains many fats that are not good for the fish and will eventually lead to bad health and possibly death. If you have nothing to feed your Oscar, the best option is to go outside and find insects that have not been in contact with pesticides and feed them that. Oscars diet in the wild consists of about 60% insects, so these should be included in a heathy diet anyways.

I have two Oscars and they will eat ANYTHING I put into their tank if they can get it into their mouths. Cat food has things in it that are not good for fish, and what will happen if you give it to your Oscars regularly is they may get constipated, or get diarrhea, or just poop WAY TOO MUCH, and it will be very, very difficult to keep their water CLEAR and CLEAN. Give your Oscars either Goldfish pellets or flakes, andas treats, some Bloodworms, and some Brine Shrimp. They may also like Algae Flakes ... I give those to my Silver Dollar Tetras and Plecostamas in the same tank, and they will eat it if they can get it before the others do.
