As no matter what you say they don't seem to understand where you are coming from nor do they make an attempt to understand where you are coming from as they are too stubborn to see anything else but their own point of view? And to top it off they use circular reasoning which can go on and on for ever as they keep rotating to a certain part of a discussion or disagreement? Is it best to just throw in the towel and leave them to their way of thinking?

Oh so many times. Most of the time I simply throw in the towel because frankly I'd rather bang my head against a wall until it turns into bloody pulp than try to change an ignorant person's mind. Once in a while if I see a glimmer of hope or understanding, I will slowly make my point, relating it to something that person DOES understand. Once I see a person not listening, but trying to think of what to say (argue) next, I even give-up on them. It becomes, unimportant.

I don't want to be right, I want to be correct.

It depends on what you're talking about. I'm with customers in their workplaces all day long, fixing their machinery. I can pick up enough verbal and visual clues usually to know who to talk budget deficit with and who to talk about restaurants with. If you want to talk with someone who's just not getting what you're saying, just stop or switch gears. You can't beat someone over the head with your point of view, if they don't get it, the more you argue, the more their mind closes up.

Sometimes when I talk to people they give that glazed look or they patronize you by agreeing with you no matter what they said . They talk and talk only to be heard and not caring for whom they are talking to . These people seem to be also people that like to play mind games with you and twist whatever you try to respond to them because they are not listening to you or pretend to do so. It is rather quite insulting ,irritating and disrespectful.

no, cos i like to know why people think the way they do...and the different points of views...i find it amazing!
i find it funny when someone is inflexible in their thinking....lol...it would be better if you take turns to talk about ur point of views...that way there is more focus on each view...lol
frustrating huh....it's ok...there are many pple like that. usually those pple have been confined to a particular environment for a long time.....

It isn't that they can't understand..they simply choose NOT to understand. Personally..once I discover that is the type person they are..I leave. Or if they just will not take the hint..then I will put them in their place with a few short words.

Sigh. Sometimes, it is so-o-o-o hard being nice..
;)

psst..BTW..it's 'conversing with' not 'conversating'
:)

Yes. Especially people with big ego's. I argue with them, but all they think about is their opinion, not anyone else's.
