and no, "democracy in iraq" doesn't count. it has nothing to do with terrorism.
i'm sure i'll hear the common conservative refrain of "we haven't been attacked since 9/11", so i'll clear a few things up:
1 the last time 3000 americans were killed on american soil was during the war of 1812
2 whether or not the plot is successful is almost insignificant considering the war and the military in iraq is not who foils the plot. the fbi does. in order to gauge whether or not the war is a success, we need to look at the number of plots (whether successful or not), per capita. if you've followed the news you know that the number of plots per year is on the rise.

name some plots? how bout the ones in chicago, new york, miami. i'm just naming ones off the top of my head.
by the way, to the second poster who wrote this:
"we've killed thousands of terrorists and have foiled dozens of plots worldwide"
i've already stated the military is not who foils the plots. secondly, if we've killed so many terrorists wouldn't the number of plots be on the decline? it's not. and how exactly do you verify whether or not the people we kill are terrorists, self proclaimed freedom fighters, or just average non combatant citizens? you can't. therefore your statistics don't stand.

I'm sorry we haven't been attacked since 911.
That must really disappoint you.

None. According to the great foggy bottom journalist Jack Anderson, there were over 600 terrorist attacks foiled by the FBI and CIA from the 1950s through the 1980s. Lax enforcement of the laws allowed the 9/11 terrorists to fly into this country, which won't be happening again. Terrorism shouldn't be the key issue in this election, but 9/11 Giuliani is leading in the Republican polls on this one issue.

Terrorists attacks have happened on American soil every 7-9 years for a long time. The fact that it's been 6 years doesn't mean anything. We weren't attacked for 8 years prior to 9/11 and you don't look back and say, "Hey, at least we weren't attacked". It's going to happen regardless of whether or not we're torturing people in Iraq.

Well, I guess not being attacked since 9/11 isn't a good argument for you. Okay how about this. Al Qaeda has been forced to hide in the mountains of Pakistan, we've killed thousands of terrorists and have foiled dozens of plots worldwide. Good enough for you.

So, the number of "plots" is on the rise.
And how do we know this?
Because the FBI, in conjunction with other agencies are doing a spectacular job of stopping these plots before they happen. As for the "fact " that the plots are on the rise, I think this is also a function of the fact that our Federal agencies are doing a better job of discovering them.
Well done FBI, you're keeping us safe in troubled times.

We've whacked most of the higher-ups of al-Qaeda. We haven't seen a terror attack in the US since 2001, despite shamefully poor border protection.
