C.C. Sabathia took the Cy Young Award today...was it deserved?

No he didn't at all. I think people think he was cheated because people are mainly focusing on how well he did in the playoffs and World Series, and he is a lot more popular so people think he should have won. But remember, the voting for the Cy Young Award was BEFORE the playoffs. Not to mention, if you compare the two pitchers' statistics this season, Sabathia did overall better. He pitched the most innings, but still had a lower ERA, he had a low amount of walks and more strikeouts than Beckett. So I think Sabathia deserved it.

No - the Cy Young award is voted on after the last game of the REGULAR season and before the post-season. Look at the stats in a rational and non-emotional manner (this means you, Red Sox Nation) and see that Sabathia pitched more innings, had more quality starts, more strikeouts, etc., and his team made it into the playoffs too. The only difference: Beckett had one more win than Sabathia.

They the two had Cy youthful high quality seasons. i won't be able to fault all and sundry for balloting for Sabathia. Frankly it does not concern me that Beckett did no longer win, only like i did no longer bounce for exhilaration while Pedroia gained the R.O.Y. those man or woman awards are ok however the substantial element is they gained the series. The playoffs have no longer something to do with it through fact the balloting had already taken place previously they began. the outcomes have been only released as we communicate.

He wasn't screwed just got bad luck to have a good season in the same year. Both deserved it and yes C.C had better overall stats but Beckett is the better pitcher and won 20 games. He should have won it. Even if I don't like him I feel bad for him b/c he deserved it more

Beckett had one more victory than Sabathia but if you look at the rest of the stats, CC was slightly better. Regardless who ended up with the award, it would have been the right choice. Nobody got "screwed".

Man, it was such a hard decision. Look, they both deserve, but unfortuanetly only one of them could win it. I love the Indians but Josh Beckett was(is) amazing. But to be honest, if I had to pick, I think Fausto Carmona should have won it. He had better ERA and Quality Starts. 19 wins. But yea C.C. deserved it. Josh Beckett just got some tough luck.

Yes, he was because it is sports writers who decide who gets the Cy Young and all the sports writers don't like Boston, along with half of the United States. New England teams always get picked on :(

C.C. deserved it
he had the most I.P. in the MLB and still a lower E.R.A. then beckett, 19-7, less then 40 walks, with the Indians...

If the playoffs were included and Sabbathia still won the award, I would say no. But since the playoffs aren't included, the argument can't be made.
