IM, or the good old fashioned 'phone? I would back to 'phone every time - take five mins to do a one hour IM AND it can't be taken the wrong way!

Phone!!! I think things like IM, email, etc are very rude ways to talk to someone (unless it is an emergency and you have to leave a message for someone). Oh well, I guess technology will soon destroy the world :))

I'd never give up my phone but I love it when I can talk to friends across the pond by IM . I now have a head set and can talk to them as if I were on the phone that's pretty weird some accents get lost in translation!! LOL

Old fashioned phone. I have never IM'd or texted or anything. I can barely use my cell phone and only call out on it. I don't even know how to answer it. Yup. I am old. Guess what! I don't care. About the cell phone illiteracy OR being old.

I'd agree that IM takes much time and can often be misinterpreted, but phoning makes me nervous sometimes especially talking to that beloved one! So, IM.

Phone. Or talking face to face wherever possible. Technology is killing the art of conversation. I find that very sad.

Phone is okay, but I hate the phone.. you have to sit there HOLDING the phone.. with ALL your attention towards that person.
On IM you can watch TV in between messages, on the phone you can't.
(Gosh, what a technologically advanced and demanding world we live in, eh?)

IM and email are free for a start which is great, secondly - especially email, you can each read it and reply at your leisure whereas you may be busy when someone calls you!
