There are plenty of Americans who speak Mandarin or Spanish or any one of the thousands of languages that exist in the world as their first language, and the American education system is failing to give these people the support they need to learn English sufficiently to function in the language. I live across the hall from a girl who spent seven years of school in an immersion ESL classroom and her vocabulary is still severely limited, her grammar is weak, and her writing is hard to decipher. She is an AMERICAN CITIZEN, mind you. Now, if the American education system is failing to give people who are here legally trying to fit into American culture and who become citizens enough support to be able to speak and write in English, then shouldn't it follow that American companies and government agencies should be expected to provide a communication interface that these citizens can understand? The United States was purposefully created with no official language or religion. Deal with it.

You know whats worse than that. Today I made a phone call and 1 was Spanish and press 2 for English, in the United States.Ridiculous!!!!!!!!

because America unlike many other countries tends to those who aren't English-speaking...even though it's the national language. It truly doesn't make any sense...because if one who was English-speaking were to go live in Japan or Mexico, they would have to learn the native language. No one would care that you spoke English...But...what can you do?

EDIT: The world revolves around others. It's not just the US. Without any other countries we'd be f-ed. So we do need it, let's say, cutting the stereotype illegal immigrant crap, that there was an Asian business worker here. Or, let's say an American businessman went to Asia for a business en devour, and just for a small meeting with another English speaking man, and he didn't really know Japanese or Korean or Chinese, he has the convenience of having his affairs dealt with in his own language. It's business people, not politics. This just goes to show: NO THING IN THIS WORLD IS DONE RANDOMLY. Everything, and I mean any tiny little thing in the government has a purpose and reason, even if it's not extremely obvious to us.
