From your less than complete and clear writing, it appears as though a wired connection works. Then again it appears as though you can wirelessly connect to some sites and get e mail. It cannot be both ways. The real question is "what is the accurate description?" and from your information, I really cannot tell.

I will suspect that you use a notebook throughout the house. At some but not all spots, the reception is good.

Remember that wireless signals are blocked by masonry, metal (e.g. ducts in the wall, mirrors, etc) and other similar obstructions. The signal weakens with distance also.

Try to use the notebook while you have a clear, unblocked, visual line of sight to the wireless access point. Use this location for an hour or so and see if the connection is sound. If so, then I suspect you have a distance weakening or a blockage in other locations and you need to reposition the access point closer to where you use it.

If this is not so, I wonder if the poor signal is due to freeloaders consuming so much bandwidth that you are seeing poor service - and this is cured by imposing tight wireless security.

Given you report good reception with wired connection, I suspect your problem is wireless signal weakening or blocking.

I cannot be assured of this given the lack of hard data provided but this is where I would look first.

Are you using a 2WIRE modem / router ? If you are then you might want to check your wireless signal is its high or low?

How to check wireless signal using a 2wire modem / router :

1. open a browser and try to access 192.168.1.254/mdc

2. It may be asking for a system password which is your modem pw : if you could not remember it, just click on hint or i forgot the password until you reach a point where in it will be asking for a system key. A system key is a 10 digit numbers inclosed in brackets at the bottom of your 2wire, below the SN ( serial number. ) Just type your system key # then you will be able to change your system password. ( system password is just a modem password and it does not affect your dsl service )

3. If you are able to access 192.168.1.254/mdc and type in your correct system password, you should be looking at a page that says " management and diagnostic console".

4. Under LOCAL NETWORK on the left side, look for WIRELESS and click it.

5. In the wireless window, under SETTINGS, just make sure that your wireless channel should be 6. Do not maximize it to 10 or 11. Then dont forget to click on the SUBMIT button.

6. Restart your computer then try to check if you are now connected to the internet and able to browse quickly

=) Hope this will be much of help. If you have any other problems, I'd be glad to help =)
