Why does Bush call Democrats fiscally irresponsible when they try to pass spending bills that fund health care and cancer research while he has no problem with spending over a trillion dollars on a needless war?

He doesn't get kickbacks after funding cancer research or education, but the war in Iraq sure has made him and his cronies a bit wealthier. Plus he is just an a$#hole.

For all you cons saying he vetoed the bill because it was full of democratic pork....your full of it. It was a bipartisan bill supported by more than 50 republicans and there was little criticism of the bills contents from either side. You cons are just money grubbing, selfish, hateful people. Hard to deal with the truth isn't it?

Well defense is where the fed.gov actually has authority to spend money. Not that I agree with the tax dollars wasted on Iraq, which we shouldn't be in and isn't really defense of the country.

Cancer research is more of a waste of money, since it will not go towards any actual cures. There is no money in cures, only in treatment, which the pharmacuetical and surgical industries so dearly love.
They can't make money and would not have a business if there wasn't anyone to 'treat'.

Don't worry about the cancer research industry, they are doing a pretty good job at running their racket and still get plenty of taxpayers dollars for their useless 'research.' They still support the metastasis *theory*, though it has changed a little to include that some protein pathway is utilized to overcome the obvious logical and biological impossibilities of cancer cells moving from one system to an entirely different one.

A monster may be a bit much. I don't know the man. Any way he is not alone. The president does not write laws or vote for their passage. He can only sign or veto as he sees fit. He can also influence. Large big money interest like the pharmaceutical companies, medical lobbyist and conservative think tanks have all contributed to the election coffers for both the Democratic and Republican parties. The desire to privatize everything government except the military while increasing the budget on big money give aways to the very rich is behind a lot of the government cut back in needed services. Look at S-CHIP, the money for infrastructure like bridges and levies, and aid to even help the veterans returning from his war. All these thing are being cut while the largest deficits ever produced are coming out of Washington. You go figure.

I guess you haven't been reading up on cancer. If you don't have the gene you won't get it. Some people don't have that gene but most people do. You can get cancer from breathing air in cities but they still blame it on cigarettes. It's like that ols movie "Refer Madness" and we all know how much BS that movie was.

Money is alloted for each thing in government. One has nothing to do with the other. Money for the war is alloted for that one thing, money for cancer is something totally different and all monies are voted on by Congress so blame Congress not just Bush.

Because as he promised in his 2000 campaign, Bush is a compassionate conservative who cares about the poor and the sick. He does not believe in foreign interventions and nation building. He believes in bipartisanship and he is a uniter, not a divider.

Scary, isn't it, when you think about his promises and the reality 7 years later.

To answer your question a bit more directly: Bush hopes to show his fiscal conservatism by vetoing bills for children's health care and cancer research. I think this strategy will backfire totally, and independent voters and moderate Republicans will flock to the Democratic party in 2008.

I have come to the conclusion that Bush believes the entire American electorate is as stupid as he is, so he doesn't think anyone will notice or care.

I don't know. I wish I did. What I do know is we need to get him and those like him out of the WH as soon as possible.

EARMARKS, and added pork. Congress can't pass anything with out adding a little extra... THAT is why President Bush has vetoed the bills

Nope.
It wasn't because of cancer research, which we give many millions each year.
It was vetoed because of Millions of Democrat Pork.

What needless war?
I've only heard Terrorists call it that.
