By this I mean is there some sort of hub device, usb or otherwise? I thought that wireless cards for windows98 laptops may be hard to come by these days and not very functional.

There are plenty of little $30 usb wireless devices. You just have to check that 98 drivers are included. I have a bunch of old 98 Toshibas running on Linksys dongles.

Some wireless routers have ethernet ports in the back, you would be able to connect if you had a cable and a network plug on the laptop. This only if the connection is to be temporary, I would suppose...

If you get a wireless USB card, make sure you have Windows 98 Second Edition (comes with USB support). If you just get a PCMCIA card (one of those flat cards that slides in the side of the computer) you wouldn't need USB support. Like the others said, though, make sure the card has Win 98 support from the manufacturer.

You could get a Linksys usb wireless device or whatever brand you want. Just as long as the Windows 98 drivers are included.

If you wish to connect to a wireless access point, your pc must have a wireless network adapter. If you wish to connect to a wired access point (network switch or hub) you need a wired network adapter.

If you have a Win 98 pc, the drivers for the adapter must be Win 98 compatible. Select a network adapter that works with Win 98 and you will be able to function.
