I'm considering making a MLB Fan union. It'll be a lot of work but I wanna first see if there is any interest out there. Thinking about making it free too. I think fans should strike (like players do) when we're not happy with cost of food, drinks and ticket prices at the ball park. Ball players think they are screwing the owners when it comes to high salaries.... but it is us (the fans) that feel the cost. What happened to 2 dollar hotdogs, 2 dollar drinks (or beer) and ticket prices...forget that. Its like paying for 1 month's worth of cable! Let me know what you guys think?

I know it could fail but if you guys recall...after the players went on strike.... faans got fed up with games... hence its why football and basketball over came baseball as a popular sport. If it wasnt for the whole steroid era of long ball, I think fans would of stayed away longer. And I'm also guilty of going for the team with the higher salary..... but we all love underdogs. When the yankees won their 1st championship under the Jeter era....they were not a big spending team. But Like most MLB fans, I'm sick of Agents (especially Scott Boras), Owners, and players (ARod, Manny and others..lots others) screwing the fan over. It was done once and I think its possible (very unlikely) to do some sort of union. And a union is better than a boycott because there is structure in a union. I've seen some websights on line of Fan unions... but there is just no interest. Which sucks. We pay their salaries.... they work for us!

Good luck with that. I think the owners would try to squash that as soon as they hear about it. But if there was one I would join. I'm a Red Sox fan and Fenway has the highest ticket prices in Baseball due to the size of the Stadium and demand for their tickets

Fan unions have been tried before quite often, and it doesn't work. Fans don't have a direct economic interest in sports, so they don't have a particularly strong bargaining position. It would be difficult to find a large number of people who would be willing to chip in to such an organization -- and you'd have to charge dues because you'd need money to put together any sort of effective group.
However, there is an informal union of sorts out there, along the lines of "voting with your dollars." If you don't like what a team is doing, you don't go to the games. Period. When I go to a sporting event these days, I rarely buy any food or drink -- it's just too expensive in most cases. Maybe a little popcorn if there is a $3 box, but that's about it. It happens more than you'd think, particularly with bad teams.

Teams, like the Reds, have $1 nights all the time! You don't need a union, you need a better team to watch. LOL
The NHL has a fan union, but it hasn't done any good, either. They are recognized by the players and the league, but in the end, they have no real voice.

In place of a union, just don't attend games, don't buy memorabilia or MLB products, don't support sponsors of MLB on TV, radio, or other media, and in general just ignore the game. THAT will get the owners and the MLB union's attention more than a fans' union.

You can't make a union of sports fans. That's not what a union is. You can boycott the MLB by not spending your money on it, but you can't organize a union to force them to lower prices to your liking. The best thing you can do is not give them your money. That's it.

good idea but there will always be someone who has the money and will pay for more, and if you want to see a good team compete then your team has to pay the money in return bring the ticket prices higher and this coming from a fan who's team has one of the highest ticket prices in the league

Great idea but will never work. If you don't like the prices, then boycott the team and stadium.

see the thing is they charge the prices that people are willing to pay. it's not voodoo pricing there are very detailed studies involving pricing. if you really wanted cheaper prices you need to get everyone to not go to games. unfortunately that won't happen because people want to go to games and prices aren't that outragous.
