1) We got rid of Saddam

2) Ensured free and fair elections for the new Iraqi govt.

3) Helped train new Iraqi police and military forces

Why not pack up 90% of our forces, bring our soldiers/marines home to ticker tape parades, shower them with our support, and declare victory? After all, with Bush's WMD theory blown to hell, the only other reason was to get rid of Saddam and establish a democracy...mission accomplished.

US taxpayers are hook for over $1.6 trillion in costs to date for this war. Its time to pack up and leave the Iraqis to sort things out. They have a Shi'ite majority in govt. and military, which will ensure that the Sunni-led Al-Qaida never is able to establish a foot hold in the country.

Dinamuk: The time is now. The well of taxpayer money is dry.

prancinglion: We can't afford to continue to rebuild Iraq for a cost of $14 billion per month, which is what Bush is asking for FY2008.

Besides, Bush is bringing battalians home because he has no other choice. Their 15 month deployments are up and there is nobody to replace these guys with.

cantcu: You are correct. $1.9 trillion for both wars of which Afganistan is only 17% of the costs, divide that by the $1.9 trillion and you get $1.6 trillion.

John S:

1) Yes, I know the CIA put Saddam into power. But we helped put a democratic govt. in power to replace Saddam and only the Iraqis can make it work.

2) Iran is going to 'win' in Iraq whether we leave in 10 years or 10 minutes. Unfortunately, Bush assurred an Iran win by removing Saddam.

3) The 10% of US soldiers I propose to leave in Iraq would be purely for training. Its past time for Iraqi police and military to control the streets and cities.

And no, I didn't make the mistake of judging Iraqis by our standards. Personally, I don't care about Iraq and what they do with their lives and country, nor do we have the financial ability at a cost of $14 billion per month to prop up that country indefinitely.

Its time to go.

It is 1.9 Trillion for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

I don't care whether Exxon pulls more oil out of Iraq, currently 4 million barrels a month. I do care that we are sending body bags home for almost 5 years over a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 or terrorist! All lies by Bush!

Moreover, we haven't been paying for the medical needs of those who were wounded in combat! Only Bush would cut VA Hospitals 3 years into a war while giving tax cuts to the rich!

Bring them home! Wasn't it Bush who declared in 2003 "Mission Accomplished"?

(1) Saddam may be gone, but there are thousands of dirtbags trying to take his place, if you know how Saddam Hussein came to power, you understand why Iraq is in such a precarious position right now.

(2) Yes, the elections were a big step, but there are other problems facing that government that makes it somewhat unstable at the moment, like Iran trying to influence Iraqi government issues through various means, (religion, economy, and even terror.)

(3) Yes, we have been training them, but they still need time to gain experience and assert themselves. They still require our backing for support at various levels, especially advanced training of their elite forces. (such as FBI training for Iraqi investigators, intelligence training for the military, and advanced equipment training for Police and Military personel. This is compounded by a lack of public education in Iraq and the fact many good people in Iraq can't read!
You have made the classic American mistake of judging Iraqi's by American standards.

We declared victory at the appropriate time.... the end of the war. The war in Iraq ended a few months after it started. We are now there trying to help rebuild the country just as we did for countries after WWII.

What we're fighting now is the war in terror. The terrorists have chosen Iraq as a battle field, not us.

And... as it happens, we (under the leadership of President Bush) are winning. In fact, the surge has been so successful they are starting to return troops on an undisclosed schedule.

Warm regards,
Douglas

Israel has a stranglehold on the U.S. Federal Government. The U.S. taxpayer has no say whatsoever. That is what happens when you embrace globalism and diversity. You lose your sense of nationalism and freedom.

That's exactly what we are going to do, when the time comes.
That was the Goal from the beginning.

Hillary will finish off the Insurgents and send a few troops home.
