i was playing around with some toy magnets and trying to see what all it would stick to and i put it up to the computer sceen and it made the sceen move and it would change colors wherever you moved the magnet...why does it do that and will it mess up the computer?

Yes, it will damage a cathode ray tube type monitor or TV. It will magnetize the the phosphors in it and will blur the image.

If you have messed up the monitor already by trying this, some monitors have a "degauss" button which reverses the damage.

First, it will only affect a cathode ray tube monitor, not a "thin" one which is LED or LCD.

Second, it will likely be only temporary in terms of its effect while the magnet is next to the screen. The magnetic yoke is further back in the CRT and probably not affected by your magnet.

the magnets can erase the stuff on your computer and mess it up. but i dont know why it makes the screen change color.

Yes ti will mess up the computer/tv.

If you didnt do ti very bad, you can pay someone to fix it relatively cheap. Otherwise if you did it pretty bad, you might be out of luck.
