yes, but not just because he is fan favorite. Lowell has the numbers over the past two years. Also he is a solid presence in the clubhouse. He speaks both spanish and English which makes him popular with both groups on the team. does that 4th year at 37 yo scare me? hell yeah, but a 4 yr contract for 27 yo Migeul Cabrera scare me just as much because I don't know how he'll react to Boston. Last years stats aside do you think the Yanks would have done the Arod deal knowing that the outcome would be 0 WS championships and a walk away player after his best year. All contracts are gambles.

He's reaching the top of his prime and needs more time with the Sox to get Even Better. I know it seem s impossible for Mike Lowell to have a better season, but if studies and witnesses have shown that the longer played with the Red Sox, the better.

Examples:

David Ortiz
Manny Ramirez
Mike Lowell
Josh Beckett
Manny Delcarmen

Of course they should and they tried. Mike is looking for 4 years, the Sox offered him 3. I really hope they offer him an option for 4.

They should resign him, but 4 years at bigtime money might be pushing it. I don't expect him to keep up these numbers for that long. The Sox made him a fair offer. If someone else offers him more, so be it. We'll spend our millions elsewhere.

Look at the free agents available at third base. Sign Lowell. He will perform for 4 years. Make the 4th year based heavily on incentives. He wants to come back. He'll do it.

Unless they're going to get ARod to replace him, they'll be better off signing him for four years so as to get three good years out of him. Given the disparity in his numbers at home and on the road, I am wondering if anyone else is really going to give him that big of a contract, however.

Yes they should resign him. He is a great 3rd baseman and 4 years with him will sure be much cheaper than signing A-Rod.

not 4 years

I think at most he deserves something like 2 years/ 24 million dollars, with a mutal option that is worth like 14 million
