WOA! i just learned about this in history... like 2 days ago! so let me help u...
CAUSES:
- it was during the time that Jefferson was president
- the British were practicing impressment (they were attacking American ships, taking the sailers, and making them work/fight for them)
- the British were blocking American ports
- the Americans decided to declare war on Britain in 1812 to show that they could not be pushed around, and they wanted to establish themselves as a strong and powerful nation in the world
EFFECTS:
- (the Americans won)
- since the British were the allies of all the Indians in America, when they were defeated, the Indians were too... the Americans could now expand into the west
- it was also called the "second war of independence" b/c the Americans got their independence from Britain... again

It was between America and Great Britain. The main conflict issue was Britain still not accepting that America was no longer a British colony. The British forced American merchant seamen into The British Navy.
Several interesting things happened in that war. Britain burned down the White House and US capital in Washington D.C. America attacked Canada and got defeated. The biggest and last battle was fought in New Orleans, LA many weeks after hostilities were officially halted. Nobody knew that The War was over because communications were so primative in 1812.

The war was fought from 1812 to 1815 on both land and sea. By the end of the war, 1,600 British and 2,260 American troops had died.[1]
The United Kingdom was at war with France and,[2] to impede American trade with France, imposed a series of restrictions that the U.S. contested as illegal under international law.[3] The Americans declared war on Britain on June 18, 1812 for a combination of reasons, including: outrage at the impressment (conscription) of thousands of American sailors into the British navy; frustration at British restraints on neutral trade; anger at alleged British military support for American Indians defending their tribal lands from encroaching American settlers;[4] and a desire for territorial expansion of the Republic.
