Because i was bought up by my Grandparents in the 60's id get; An old £1 note? Some colouring pencils and a colouring book, A jumper normally knitted by my Nan, A bar of chocolate and if i was really lucky something girly like a bangle. I'm now in my 40's and God I miss those days. Apart from that Christmas morning was spent getting coal out the back shed to fuel the fire, then helping my nan pluck the Turkey after my Grandfather had killed it the night before.

Yes Christmasses were like that in the 1930's. I Remember second hand toys. But it wasn't all about presents then.. It was about big family reunions. All the family would gather at grandmas... Uncles, aunts cousins, it was wonderful. Probably wouldn't see a lot of them them again till the next Christmas. But Christmas is not like that now... Too commercial and although a lot more money is spent now I don't think people enjoy it any more than we did as kids...

Yes, for Christmas, most children didn't get what kids get today. They are pretty much spoiled. I mean, why should we get presents on Jesus' birthday? I guess it gets us in the mood. But we shouldn't recieve too much that might distract us from what Christmas is really about - Jesus. And I don't think that it's so bad that those kids didn't recieve much becuase they appreicated it and it made them happy. If they're happy, then we're ok.

My Mom told me that all she got for Christmas was an orange and a pair of socks. People use to enjoy the meal time and fellowship, but now it's all about running yourself and your pocketbook ragged and ending up hating everyone in the process. I miss Christmas of long ago.

The key words are USE TOO. My sons list gets longer and longer and way more espensive. He wants a car and a lap top and a PS3, I already got the PS3 he just doesnt know it yet BUT the other two may not happen! I remember getting alot of clothes! Maybe a few toys. I was always jealous of my friend cuz they got sooooo many cool things- but now I know its the thought and the magic of Christmas- not what they get! I hope he figures it out someday! Christmas is too much gimme gimme gimme now a days!

I was one of them! but if playstations were the 'in' thing back then, i can guarantee we wouldn't have been happy with just an apple an orange and a doll....

Well, way back in the day when your other toys were sticks and rocks, I'd've been happy, too. It's all about supply, demand, and perspective. That seems absurd to kids today, but that's because they've got DVD players and Playstations and all that other stuff.

Yeah, remember when kids used to play outside, even in the winter. Now they just like to stay in the house and play video games.

Yes I did know that......and children before that were satisfied with a nice Christmas dinner, and warmth.
It's all relative.
Did you know people were satisfied with sitting around and talking to each other in person?
