I am 14 and a freshman in high school. And for about a year I've been shaving my pubic hairs. Then I was in the shower and Mom came in the bathroom for something. She said when I got out she wanted to talk to me.
She sat me down and told me that girls need that hair to keep bacteria out of the body. And she went on about how hair acts as a filter. Like in the nose. How nose hair keeps bacteria out from getting up there. And she is a major health nut. She says I'm not allowed to do that anymore.

I think for the time being your Mom has the reigns on you. She is right in the fact the hair is there for a reason to protect you from bacteria. BUT. I have shaved since I was 19 and I am now 31 and have not had any problems. Nor has my OBGYN said anything to me about it being good or bad. So i think the main thing is listening to your Mom until you are a little older and she lets you. Plus i am sure as you get older you are not going to let your mom see you naked anyhow.

Just tell her okay and keep doing it. Your personal hygiene is your own. Period. End of story.
No, your mother is NOT lying about why pubic hair is there. Nature put it there for a reason, but it is still a personal choice to shave or not. Shaving there only came about because of porn to get better shot in a sex scene.

If you still want to shave your pubic hair, you're going to have to come up with some equally convincing evidence to the contrary, which proves that what you do has benefits (real or emotional) or that what she's saying isn't true.

I dont think its the hair filter thing. Nice try by the mom but not buying that one.
She just doesnt want her 14 year old to be a slut.
Shaved pubic hairs are a direct indication of either current sexual activity or willingness to have sexual activity. Its meant for one thing, to be attractive or interesting sexually to the opposite sex. It doesnt make you swim faster or jump further or make better grades. Its not a fun thing to have to keep up with and it itches.
Its for sex, plain and simple.
Honestly, if I had a 14 year old daughter and she was shaving her pubic hair, I think I would have heart failure. I would definately have to watch her a lot more closely and ask a lot more questions.
So no, your mom is not crazy but yes, she is lieing to you about why you dont need to shave your area.
14 years old...wow.

Firstly Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! your mamma saw your bits! YIKES !!!
you only actually need your hair near the openings (sorry to be graphic!) shave away, it looks neater!
Dont go Hollywood (bald) thats when it will be sweaty & smelly! (sorry to be gross again). your mum is right about the bacteria. Try and keep a brazillian style and lock that bathroom door next time!

I think your mom is worried.
For what it's worth I think she's right. I can't see any reason for a 14 year old to shave their pubic hair unless they are having sex or at least contemplating it and that's way to young.

Seriously maybe you can work out a compromise. Ask if you can keep it trimmed close but not shaved. Let her feel like she won the battle and she will give in a little. Personally I think 14 is a bit young to keep it shaved anyway.
When you get older you will be able to decide for yourself.

I disagree with your mother. Getting into the habit of shaving at such a young age will get you prepared to keep your husband very happy. Like someone up above me said, "men love it when women shave themselves down there", at least the men into giving oral love it.

Well, your mom is right. But at 14 you're more than old enough to make decisions about your own body. Do what you feel is right, but try and respect your mama.
