Black Friday and Buy Nothing Day are the same day. TODAY. It is called Black Friday because stores get out of the red (debt) and enter the black (profit) because of mass shopping sprees for holidays. BUY Nothing day is an anti-shopping day, that aims to show people that shopping does not have to be a part of Thanksgiving weekend.

I will be the one that is handing out the money to all those that are dashing throught the stores. I work at a bank and have already seen money women stocking the purse for that great day. I have only done the dash one time and will not be anytime soon I will be at work all day.

Ugh. I was involved in the madness of Black Friday for the first time last year. I slept on the concrete outside of the local Best Buy, and it was awful. Between the false advertisement of great deals, and the savage nature of bargain shoppers, this is definitely a mall-iday I won't be partaking in again...
Good luck to all those who are willing to face it this year.
***And a sidenote to that nasty old woman who hit me with her cane at Nebraska Furniture Mart at 6am-- Who do you think you are? I hope your grandchildren are taken away by Child Protective Services, you evil wench.

I have never, and will never, participate in the insanity that is called "Black Friday". Geez... I avoid setting food in all stores besides the grocery store and gas station during the holidays. I buy on-line and do everything possible to avoid going to the post office.

For me it is "buy nothing day". I buy all my gifts throughout the year and have my shopping done by this time. Anyone who would shop in the "Black Friday" mess is so not into saving money...you get all those advertised items through the year cheaper.

i'm tempted, this year, to do the whole black friday thing. i've never shopped on that day before but i don't know that i could handle all the pushy, rude people. ironic isn't it? the supposed happiest time of the year brings out the absolute worst in some people. i think i'll stay home.

Depends on what's in the ads!!! However, I have to admit, I always look at them but seldom buy anything on Black Friday.

i try to celebrate buy nothing day every day. i hate consumerism. i hate christmas. i hate malls. i hate big ticket items. i hate money. it's pointless, will get you nowhere in the grand scheme of things, and is totally useless to you when you die. as are consumer items like ipods, flatscreens, expensive handbags, and $100 haircuts.

I wish I could avoid it. I work at the LARGEST retail chain, and I'll be at work at 4:00a.m. with all the crazy people. My vote would be to stay home, and eat leftovers, snuggle, and enjoy the day!

We stay inside and decorate our tree and eat leftovers and watch old movies. Who wants to be beaten by Grandma with her walker as she tries to be first in line for the cheap TVs?
