Trying to figure out if buying 800x600 lcd projector is a bad choice. My primary use is going to be just plain Powerpoint presentation and occasional movie watching.

If you are going to watch a movie then even at SD they are 853 by 480.

So with a 800 by 600 projector the image is going to have to be down-scaled.

The 1024 projectors tend to have better features and are brighter.

The real key thing to check on a projector is the colour reproduction. Check that yellows appear yellow and not brown or a greenish hue.

Not much different there...

Just as with a monitor resolution a higher one will get you a bigger screen with more room for stuff where as a lower res will not...

If all you doing is movies and powerpoint id say go with the 800x600, if you plan on gaming with this then get the higher res one. it'll be more compatible with the games and give you a really nice picture...

If you plan to watch movies, forget the 800x600 immediately, it is only good for powerpoint presentation with basic cliparts.

Depends on how far away from the wall you plan on putting your projector
