Exercise equipment is just so hamster-wheel.
Did it to death.
Want to walk but have no sidewalks, trails, walk-up destinations, crosswalks...

In a word, yes.

Personally, I opted out long ago. Granted, I live in a city (Atlanta) where that was feasible. But I live in a "revitalized" neighborhood" where people can--and do--walk down to shop as much as drive. I don't have to cope with traffic--the subway is a 5-minute walk one way, an intown shopping center 5 minutes walk the other way. I don't even have acar--what for? NOR do I have the bills that go with one! :)

I know my neighbors-and unlike our much vaunted "suburbs"--i can walk down the street without worrying about criminals--if there WAS any place to walk in the suburbs, which mostly there isn't.

The yupies can have their suburbs. I wouldn't move back there if they handed me a mansion for free.

There's always the local gym. I'm sure if you were worried about a sedentary lifestyle you could always join the YMCA and go into the fitness room. Most people have 45 extra minutes on their hands. Cars are no excuse!

In most cases the answer is Yes. The individual has to take responsibility to ensure they get the adequate excercise and eat healthy in their leisure time. Only you can do that.
