An elderly relative has suffered a stroke and now has difficulty moving her right arm and also has speech problems. Explain what areas of the brain were damaged to account for there problems.

The most likely area of damage is the left inferior frontal gyrus of the frontal lobe of the cortex(in front of the ear). This would affect both motor control of the right arm, and Broca's area which is the most common cause of speech problems following stroke.

The damaged area is on the left side of the brain.
