1 1/2 becomes 3/2 (* see below)
Then multiply 3/2 by 4/1 to get 12/2
Divide 12 by 2 to get 6
Your answer is 6
* 1 1/2 cannot be expressed as a whole number because 3 is not divisible by 2 evenly

OK
1 1/2 = 3/2
Now, when you multiply it by 4 ; 4x3/2 = 12/2 = 6.
So you answer is 6. Think for a second if I had 1 and 1/2 a pie and said make 4 times that amount, you would have to make 4 pies (4x1) plus 4x1/2 or 2 more - thus 6 pies.
OK? Hope that helps.

First one: element out x+a million. despite the fact that, understand that a root of x +a million -- i.e., x = -a million -- is likewise a answer. formally, you may write the equation as (x+a million)*(3x + 3 - 4) = 0, and the ideas take place whilst the two of those 2 words = 0. 2nd one: enable u = ax +b and v = bx + a. u^2 - v^2 = 0. (u-v) * (u+v) = 0. u-v = 0 or u+v = 0. replace lower back in for u and v any time you like, and clean up for x. the vast element right this is that a manufactured from words equals 0 if and on condition that ANY of the words equals 0. So be careful in case you element something out that could equivalent 0.
