I am having trouble with my computer. When i load it, the taskbar will not appear. It is showing no signs of hard disk activity. what should i do?

If all else fail, try the self repair feature in XP.

You're going to have to elaborate. You get no task bar, do you get a desktop? does windows even load? If it does, your Hard drive is working. If you don't get anything after the POST screen, your hard drive might need fixing. what did you do in order for this to happen. Any of these details would greatly increase your chances of a useful answer....

If you can't access the safe mode at boot up and run restore system, I suggest that you run your O.S. install disk and repair, not reinstall.
