the country up to men.

This specific question was asked as part of the 1996 and 1998 General Social Surveys. There were 22,477 respondents. Would you care to guess at the correlation between years of education and agreeing with this statement?

I'll give you a bit and post the answer later.

BTW, I recommend the GSS to anyone with any interest in the social sciences. You can look at all kinds of "interesting" questions. How about the relationship between political party affiliation, income, sex and belief in alien abduction, for example?

24.15% of men agreed.
24.00% of women agree.

Correlation with years of education: -0.35.

That is, there appears to be no difference by gender but people with fewer years of education tend to agree with the statement and people with more years of education tend to disagree.

I would assume that those that agree with that statement fall into the "less educated" category. But that is my subjective opinion. I will wait and see how the stats bear out.

EDIT--Oh, just in case anyone is wondering, I disagree, of course. (lol)

Disagree. I am curious about the results, but of course none of them will affect me in any way. Who cares what a teeny-tiny fraction of randomly chosen people said?

Also, the census and other surveys are sent to the home owner (typically a male, even though more women are buying these days). So, even thought these types of questionairres are sent to a random selection, the surveys is still flawed because men were the ones answering the questions. SInce it is a gender based question, obviously the answers will be biased.

I disagree with this statement. I think that the running of homes should be done 50 50. Women and men both have their places in homes and what needs to be done. Same with running a Country. Women have a place and men have theirs. Though I do not think a woman should be President. I could go into a long list of reasons why but I wont. There's no need to.

Oooh! Please tell me the correlation. I'm going to make a guess off the top of my head and say the correlation between education and agreeing with the statement is r = -.20

As far as whether I agree with the statement.....hell no! I didn't go to college to learn to manage my home. I could have done that without learning about piaget's developmental stages and how to run an ANOVA, Logistic regression, and factor analysis.

Disagree. Because men and women are equally intelligent and both are capable of running the country.

My guess is that the correlation is that more educated people thought women should run the home and not the country.

(Just because that would have the most shock value)

But, given the social inequalities and the lack of opportunity until recently for women, it does not surprise me. Change takes time. Sometimes a few generations.

Where is it written that women are supposed to tale care of the house. Its just the mentality of some MCP who think this way. We all have our right & the right to live a beautifull & respectful life. It has to be live & let live policy leave aside the gender

Because the word "should" is there, the statement is inflammatory. It is worded in such a way that a yes/no response is required. I don't know what that really says.

Disagree.

Gender shouldn't decide who will be running what. I see no sense in this at all. I thought we were all human beings. Are we nothing more than "just men" or "just women"? Isn't there ANYTHING to us other than gender?

We don't choose our genders, so it would be unfortunate to be forced into certain roles that we didn't choose.

Saudi Arabia is just such a country the men run everyting and the women can't even leave their homes by themselves and I doubt very seriously they are happy about it.
