Is it true you have to be a citizen to becmoe a firefighter in the US?

I live in NYC and i wanna try for firefighter but someone told me you have to be a citizen. can someone tell me if it is true???

I don't think so. I mean you have to have a visa permit to serve in the Armed Forces, so I guess the same would apply here.

Each city has their own rules for fire departments. You would have to check NYC's.
