My brother has this thing that is like a light and it is supposed to kill germs. Well, he was waving it over the kitchen counters, and my mom, being silly, said, "Gee, now there will be dead germs all over the kitchen counters!"

But that got me thinking. What DOES happen to dead germs?! Do other germs eat their carcasses? But what if you kill all of them? I know the answer is probably obvious, and this question really shows my stupidity. But I really want to know!

Yes. They are eaten and usually in fairly short order.

Keep in mind that the germs are microscopic to begin with. Even if their 'carcasses' piled up for a while, you probably still wouldn't be able to detect them appreciably.

It also bears mention that there are very, very few things that kill ALL bacteria on a surface. If there's a million germs there, and you kill 99.9% of them (which would be pretty good) that still leaves a thousand to multiply and cause trouble. And there are plenty of bacteria in non-cleaned areas and even the air to re-populate as well. Almost nothing stays germ-free for long!

that's a good question. I would say your right about that, but some sprays and stuff like germ-x don't kill all the germs so maybe the live ones eat the dead ones. I'm not saying that I'm right, its just a thought. ^-^

It's OK that you want to know. Everyone want's to know something important at any supporting time!

I am not really an expert on GERMS....!!! Maybe they wash away when you wash them. Is it a little can with Germs that kills 99% of it away? If so, It will go away!

Enjoy!

it all depends on whether they are good germs or bad germs.. dead good germs go to germ heaven... and dead bad germs go to germ hell... germ heaven would be like if a dead germ dies and falls onto a chockolate fudge cupcake which gets eaten by a really nice healthy person with a good digestion system.. they may windup down the toilet but it will have been a great ride.. now as for as germ hell.. well that is kinda sorta like.. someone puts alcohol on a cotton swab and then soaks the bad germs in it.. till they die and become a sterile good for nothing can't do any harm to anyone anymore sorry microscopic tiny pile of trash.. and then has to ride that piece of cotton in one of those trashbags..that wind up in the medical dump and get burned up in about 2,000 degrees ovens.. like I said.. it's hell..
