copyright laws on youtube?

are their any consequences to posting copyrighted material on youtube other than purging accounts and suspending videos? I just dont want to be sued or fined or anything that would directly effect my life!

Depends on the copyright owner.

If you post a new hit song, the label is VERY likely to sue you.
