I don't think anyone owns the copyright to the Mona Lisa. If yo choose to use it, yo might want to consider changing at least 10% of the original. This will get you out of the copyright laws if any apply.

No, the Mona Lisa is LONG out of copyright.

BUT.... where are you going to get the image? The photo of the Mona Lisa you use probably IS copyright.

Best to go to a stock photos web site, and buy a license. It's not expensive.

Depends on how old the painting is. Most works over a few hundred years old (and some much younger), become what is known as "public domain." For example, there is no copyright on Shakespeare's work, or Michaelangelo's, or ancient Roman artwork. You'd have to check on the individual works you want to use. Hope that helps.
