Planning out a new computer, leaning towards a 3.0ghz 1333fsb system (Dell XPS 420). Since Windows typically can't handle more than 3.2gb of ram (unless your running an OS 64), which is better.

I do alot of gaming so this is my priority when it comes to quicking hardware components.

I'm assuming the 3gb at 800 would be better for the fact that the speed is closer to the bus speed on the system and since windows can't handle 4gb to begin with, am I correct in this?

I appreciate all the help tremendously. 10 points to the best answer within a day or two.

You are ABSOLUTELY right. 4Gb is wasteful in a 32bit environment because about 750Mb will just sit in the memory hole (useless). You should get the 10 points. There would hardly be a significant difference between those types of RAM in a proprietary motherboard.

2Gb is typically optimum even in gaming. I would rather spend extra cash on a better graphics card like the 8800GT.

For gaming, I'm less inclined to use OEM PC w/ proprietary motherboard. You could hardly tweak the system for best performance.

Your right about the Ram question, windows vista 32bit normally won't handle more then 3 GB.

You say you do a lot of gaming, but still you get a Dell ? that sure doesn't make a lot of sense.
I went to check out the specs on the model you mentioned, and it doesn't list any info on the motherboard, you don't find that odd ?

As a gamer and vista owner you would really want a SLI enabled motherboard and 2 graphics cards so you really can experience DX 10

3 GB of RAM at 800mhz should be your choice-- The sweet spot for Vista 32bit is 2GB. A 88 mhz will make your system faster and better for overclock.

windows x32 can only handle 2 GB of ram, windows x64 can handle 4 GB, dont waste your money unless you have an x64 system. you dont need a lot of ram to game 2 gigs is way plenty. you need a good graphics card and processor.

Yes, 4GB of RAM would be a waste of money.
