I use my dryer, but you can hang them to dry if that's what you prefer. I don't like hanging things out to dry because they get so stiff. When I hang them, I put them in the dryer anyway to get the stiffness out.
My favorite laundry soap is All.

There are a few things that I don't use the dryer for. Your load should not take longer than 40 minutes to dry. If it takes longer you are either overloading it or it's on it's last leg. I use powdered Purex detergent. I get a huge box at Walmart for $2.94!! I thought it was going to be crap at first. I get triple the amount than a normal box of Tide. But I tried it & it works better. There was always soap residue on our clothes from the Tide but the Purex rinses clean & smells nice too. I get about 100 loads out of the box. A lot of Wal Marts are getting rid of powder detergent all together. Not sure why but the liquid is a little more. Works the same though

depends, is your laundry jeans, sweaters, delicates?
delicates you can air dry or put in the dryer on air dry. Jeans will dry quickly if you line dry and it's over 80 outside, otherwise put in a dryer.
dryer is quickest. and with fabric sheets your clothes are much softer than line drying.
never heat dry sweaters or other items like 100% cottons that will shrink. look at the tags on your clothing when in doubt.
detergent is based on preference. I can say anything will work for light use clothing, but you might consider those with a bleach/bleach alternative when doing easily stained or white clothes, saves money and aggrevations involved with chlorine bleach. Heavily stained clothing should be pre-soaked to help give the detergent a chance.
Tide is great, but expensive. All is a great alternative but any will do if used correctly.

I've had good luck with both Tide and Arm and Hammer.
As for drying, I usually use the dryer- but that's because it's gotten cold and damp and miserable here. Otherwise, a clothes line is as reliable and uses no electricity or gas.

I do both - it depends on the item of clothing. Kinda weird, but I hang my jeans to dry because if you dry your jeans in a dryer, it shortens their lifespan. I also hang dry my bras and my rugs that have the rubber stuff on the back. Most everything else goes in the dryer. My fiance hangs dry most of his dress shirts.

You can do either in regards to drying your laundary. To save energy it's best to sun dry your clothes. For time purposes and softness I prefer to use my dryer though. I also like to use environmentally friendly products so I use all natural detergents. I'm not sure of the name of mine but it has no chemicals in it at all. I also don't use dryer sheets for softness. They clog up your lint trap and can start a fire.

If they are cotton, or partially cotton they will shrink in the dryer.. and i think that drying silk ruins it. Other than that i just put normal clothes in the dryer
