Thomas Edison was a great inventor. His first invention was a tinfoil phonograph - a record player. So he was on the cutting edge of technology for his time. He is best known for his work on the light bulb, but in his lifetime he registered over 1000 patents for his inventions. These sites will help you. Best of luck with it.

the parallel circuit
an improved dynamo
the underground conductor network
the devices for maintaining constant voltage
safety fuses and insulating materials
light sockets with on-off switches
